A Note From An Old Acquaintance by Bill Walker

A Note From An Old Acquaintance by Bill Walker

Brian Weller is a haunted man. It's been two years since the tragic accident that left his three-year-old son dead and his wife in an irreversible coma. A popular author of mega- selling thrillers, Brian's life has reached a crossroads: his new book is stalled, his wife's prognosis is dire, and he teeters on the brink of despair. Everything changes the morning an e- mail arrives from Boston artist Joanna Richman. Her heartfelt note brings back all the poignant memories: the night their eyes met, the fiery passion of their short- lived affair, and the agonizing moment he was forced to leave Joanna forever. Now, fifteen years later, the guilt and anger threaten to overwhelm him. Vowing to make things right, Brian arranges a book- signing tour that will take him back to Boston. He is eager to see Joanna again, but remains unsure where their reunion will lead. One thing is certain: the forces that tore their love asunder will stop at nothing to keep them apart.

Thank you to Mr. Walker for providing me with a copy of this book to read & review.

What would you do if the love of your life returned after 15 years?

Brian Weller is a best selling author with his latest book riding on the best seller lists for over 20 weeks. And now he's got nothing left to give. He's still mourning the death of his son two years earlier from a car accident. The same accident that has left his wife in an irreversible coma. And then one day, seemingly out of no where, Brian gets an e-mail from Joanna Richman, an artist from Boston who is/was his one true love. His soul mate. Brian and Joanna e-mail a bit and after Brian's wife passes away, he decides to go and visit Joanna and see what happens.

We are then brought back to 1991, 15 years earlier when Brian and Joanna met. The attraction to each other was immediate, intense, and electrifying. There was just one small problem - Joanna was engaged to another man, Erik Ruby. A controlling, egotistical manipulator who will do whatever it takes to keep Joanna as his own. The story of Brian and Joanna is filled with lust, romance, and intense passion. The passion of two people who are so in tune with one another that leaves no doubt that they meant to be together. And the passion of a man (Erik) who will do whatever it takes to keep the woman he wants. Including giving Brian an incredibly difficult choice to make ~ his family or the love of a woman he does not want to live without.

We return to 2006 when Brian and Joanna meet again. Brian is newly widowed and Joanna is stuck in a loveless marriage with Erik. There is no denying the fact that the intense love they once shared has not diminished. The question is, what will they do about it? Will Joanna finally break out of her marriage and leave Erik? And more importantly, will Erik let her? When Joanna finds out what Erik did years ago will it make a difference to her? Or will Brian face heartache once again?

This book was simultaneously gut wrenching and heart warming. You can't help but feel for Brian who has to make an impossible choice, Joanna who has to choose between two men, and Erik who seems to genuinely love his wife but is so focused on "owning" things that he can't let Joanna go to be with the one she truly loves. Mr. Walker has a way of writing that brings you right into the story with Joanna and Brian. You can actually feel the love and desire that they have for each other. It's almost as if you can reach out and touch it. A Note From An Old Acquaintance is an amazing story of love, loss, and love again. Lending to the belief that not only is there such a thing as your "soul mate", but also the hope that if you have lost your one true love, you may just be able to find it again.
