A Glimpse of Evil by Victoria Laurie

Professional psychic Abigail Cooper is about to discover that some cold cases are better off dead...

As the FBI's newest Civilian Profiler, Abby Cooper is using her powers of intuition to help solve a backlog of the bureau's cold cases. But when she's the only one who's convinced that several separate cold cases are related, she'll have to call on every intuitive bone in her body before she's the one put on ice...

 My thoughts ~

Dutch and Abby are on their way to Texas where new jobs await both of them.  Dutch is one of the agents in charge of the new field office that will be specializing in solving cold cases. Abby is the new civilian profiler for the same unit, having won over Dutch’s superiors with her intuitive ways.  Already in Texas are Dutch’s boss Brice and Abby’s best friend and former partner Candace, still as madly in love as ever.  Will the move bring these couples together or tear them apart? Only time will tell.

When Abby begins her work with the FBI, she is tasked, along with the other agents to “audit” hundreds of files using a certain form to determine if they feel the case could be solved with further investigating or if it will remain “cold” forever. With her crew at her side, she is able to look at the pictures in the files and determine if the person is alive or dead. Her crew also gives her clues, or images, that she then interprets which hopefully will (and, given her gift usually does) lead them to solving the case. One of the cases Abby comes across is a missing child. She immediately knows that the child is dead, but receives good information from her crew about what happened to her. She then connects this case to another, and realizes that there just may be a serial killer out there. Abby is also shown the files of three men who have been viciously murdered and she immediately senses that things are not what they appear to be.  She knows there is more to their murders, but can’t put her finger on it just yet.

After one of the agents takes Abby into the field, with almost catastrophic results, she and the agent are suspended while IA investigates. Abby and Candace decide (well Candace decides and Abby goes along) to investigate on their own. The problem is, Candace doesn’t have her PI license yet, and Abby is not supposed to go near any of the FBI cases while suspended. Does this stop them? Or course not. And we all know this could only mean trouble for everyone involved.  But despite some near misses and some relationship problems, once again Candace and Abby work together to find these little girls home , bring down a serial killer and unwittingly solve the case of the viciously murdered men – all while trying not  to get themselves killed. A GLIMPSE OF EVIL is another wonderful edition to the Psychic Eye series.  While there may be a change in scenery, the characters that we have come to know and love are still the same. They are endearing, goofy, lovable, and troublesome. The only thing I wish there was more of in this book is the way Abby would make believers out of disbelievers. How she could tell them things she had no business knowing, making for uncomfortable, yet funny scenes. This series has always been believable as Ms. Laurie, also a psychic, writes about what she knows.  And I thank her for once again giving us a glimpse into the lives of these wonderful characters.  Unfortunately we won’t be able to meet them again until next July when the newest book in the series, EYE SPY, will be released.

This book will be released on July 6th. Clink on the link above to pre-order your copy today
