El Patron by Michele Scott

El Patrón by Michele Scott

What began as an innocent love affair for one young woman, Marta Peña, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in 1969, sets in motion a series of events that spans the next thirty years. This is the story of South American drug lords Antonio Espinoza and Javier Rodriguez, and their violent quest for power. In a sweeping family saga, we meet the women who love them and the children they vow to protect at any cost.

With a complex web of interconnected families, this gritty novel delves into the lives of a power hungry clan, following the rise of their business, the destructive path of their torrid and erotic love affairs, and the struggle to balance intense greed with devout family loyalty.

Strong women face tragedies that test their will and their commitment to the men they passionately desire. As young girls grow into women, their traumatic pasts will drive their actions and force them to make gut-wrenching decisions.

With murder, drug trafficking, dirty politics, illegal gambling, prostitution, obsessive love affairs, and family strife, El Patrón is a whirlwind in the vein of Mario Puzo's The Godfather.

"If you loved The Godfather series and have been waiting for the next big family saga, your wait

is over. El Patrón is certain to top the bestseller charts and be this year's big beach read! The

book is definitely as HOT as the cover."

Dear Friends,

The New Year brings some wonderful new changes and exciting ventures on the horizons for me as a writer. I am super pleased and excited to announce the release of my new novel El Patron. If you love a good family saga with all of the drama, romance, grit and roller coaster of a ride that a good family saga provides, then this is one you won't want to miss.

My women's fiction Happy Hour has been out for a few months now and readers have been e-mailing me, letting me know they are loving it. Book clubs have been inviting me to come and talk about the book and drink wine with them. Sounds good to me!

For those of you who haven't picked up a Michaela Bancroft mystery (a.k.a. The Horse Lover's Mystery series) because you aren't a horse lover, well, that's okay. I think though, if you did read one of these mysteries, you would be pleasantly surprised as these mysteries ar not just for those of us who are passionate about the horse. If you haven't read about Michaela Bancroft and her crazy slew of friends (both of the two-legged and four-legged variety) you might want to give them a chance. For the first time these books are out in trade paperback and available on the amazon kindle at amazing prices (under three bucks).

I will be podcasting with Lori Gondelman from http://www.lorisreadingcorner.blogspot.com/ for paperbackswap coming up, look for my tweet and facebook page to announce the date, along with a guest spot on http://www.bookingmama.blogspot.com. To follow me on Twitter, visit my page at winebookromance or find me on facebook under Michele Scott.

Also for A Toast to Murder is out in April, and is currently one of the Authorbuzz feature books of the month. It's the sixth Nikki Sands' Mystery and it's a lot of fun. I'll be at Mysterious Galaxy Book Store in San Diego on April 12th at 7:00 sharing the spotlight with Peter May who I am a fan of, so I'm excited to meet him!

Here's something all readers can get excited about! FREE STUFF! Look for freebies, gift certificates and more! Read all about your book club's opportunity to receive a $200.00 gift card to the book store of your choice, or an individual reader can win a $20.00 gift card.

And for a fun easy recipe to try out, take a shot at this month's featured recipe out of "Happy Hour."

As always, I love to hear from readers (friends), so please e-mail me et michele@michelescott.com.

Cheers,

Michele

Here's what I got ~

Blonde With a Wand: A Babes On Brooms Novel (Babes-on-Brooms) by Vicki Lewis Thompson (E-book) ~ Sexy witch Anica Revere has one rule: never under any circumstances get involved with a man before telling him she's a witch. Still, what's one silly rule? Especially when the guy in question is as cute as Jasper Danes. But when Anica and Jasper have a spat, she breaks an ever bigger rule of witchcraft and turns him into a cat. Bad news for him. Worse for her...

Deception: An Alex Delaware Novel by Jonathan Kellerman (ARC) ~ Her name is Elise Freeman, and her chilling cry for help—to whoever may be listening—comes too late to save her. On a DVD found near her lifeless body, the emotionally and physically battered woman chronicles a year-and-a-half-long ordeal of monstrous abuse at the hands of three sadistic tormentors. But even more shocking than the lurid details is the revelation that the offenders, like their victim, are teachers at one of L.A.’s most prestigious prep schools. With Elise now dead by uncertain means, homicide detective Milo Sturgis is assigned to probe the hallowed halls of Windsor Prep Academy. And if ever he could use Dr. Alex Delaware’s psychological prowess, it’s now. From the get-go, this case promises to be an uphill climb for truth and a down and dirty fight for justice. Allegations of rape, assault, and possibly murder at this esteemed institution renowned for molding Ivy Leaguers make for a social and political time bomb—especially given that one of the students has connections high up in City Hall. As the scandal-conscious elite of L.A. close ranks around Windsor Prep, Alex and Milo must penetrate the citadel of wealth and scholarship to expose the hidden anguish, dirty secrets, and deadly sins festering among society’s manor-born. But power and position are not easily surrendered, for that’s when the best and the brightest turn brutal and ugly. Searching for predators among the privileged, Alex and Milo may well be walking into a highly polished death trap. Release date: March 30th.

Poor Little Bitch Girl by Jackie Collins ~ At 72, with 26 bestsellers under her belt, Collins (Drop Dead Beautiful) prowls familiar terrain with this overheated tale of the filthy rich, nasty poor, and cravenly ambitious. Collins picks up the saga of the Santangelos with spoiled-brat Annabelle Maestro, the daughter of two Tinseltown icons, who runs a high-priced call-girl ring in New York with her coke-sniffing nogoodnik boyfriend, Frankie. Annabelle's mom's murder brings the black sheep home to L.A. to mourn for a parent she never loved—and to lean on the adventurous Denver, a quick-witted, sex-starved lawyer who's defending the No. 1 suspect in the murder, Annabelle's dad, film legend Ralph Maestro. But Denver also juggles the rescue of his missing best friend, Carolyn, who's fooling around with a horn dog U.S. senator, and a few hot one-night stands. For all the convoluted connections, mismatches, and throw-away references to ripped-from-the-headlines news and celebrities, Collins is at her seasoned best with this raunchy, retro hot-sheets romance. It's men, dollface, one brassy Hollywood agent muses. They all spew forth the same tired old lines. As does Collins. And it's impossible not to fall for it. Again.

Magnolia Wednesdays by Wendy Wax ~ At forty-one, Vivian Armstrong Gray's life as an investigative journalist is crumbling. Humiliated after taking a bullet in her backside during an exposé, Vivi learns that she's pregnant, jobless, and very hormonal. This explains why she says 'yes' to a dreadful job covering suburban living back home in Georgia, a column she must write incognito. Down South, it's her sister's ballroom dance studio that becomes her undercover spot where she learns about the local life-and where unexpected friendships develop. As she digs up her long buried roots, she starts to wonder if life inside the picket fence is really so bad after all.

Devil's Food Cake - A Culinary Mystery by Josi S. Kilpack ~ It’s been years since author Thom Mortenson has been back to Garrison, Colorado. As part of the library fundraising committee, who invited him to speak, Sadie Hoffmiller wants everything to be perfect—right down to the homemade Devil’s Food Cake she made herself. Murder, however, was not on the menu. When Thom’s manager ends up dead on stage, Sadie does what any woman with a history of solving murders does–jumps right in to offer her guidance and expertise. The police, however, are not very appreciative. In fact, they’d rather she just go home. But can Sadie help it if she keeps stumbling over information? Can she help it if the people intricately woven into the deception keep crossing her path? The more she learns, the broader the spectrum becomes and when the police refuse to take her seriously, Sadie has no choice but to sidestep them altogether in the pursuit of justice. With her son Shawn at her side, her reputation on the line, and a full cast of suspicious characters, Sadie Hoffmiller is once again cooking her way through a case that offers far more questions than answers.

Death Rides the Surf (A Kate Kennedy Senior Sleuth M) by Nora Charles ~ Kate Kennedy rides the waves-of suspicion. When the surfer crush of Kate Kennedy's granddaughter is killed-and foul play is suspected-Kate must clear her granddaughter's name before she's thrown to the sharks.

The Stormchasers by Jenna Blum (ARC) ~ As a teenager, Karena Jorge had always been the one to look out for her twin brother Charles, who suffers from bipolar disorder. But as Charles begins to refuse medication and his manic tendencies worsen, Karena finds herself caught between her loyalty to her brother and her fear for his life. Always obsessed with the weather - enraptured by its magical unpredictability that seemed to mirror his own impulses - Charles starts chasing storms, and his behavior grows increasingly erratic....until a terrifying storm chases with Karena ends with deadly consequences, tearing the twins apart and changing both of their lives forever. Two decades later, Karena gets a call from a psychiatric ward n Wichita, Kansas, to come pick up her brother, whom she hasn't seen or spoken to for twenty years. She soon discovers that Charles has lied to the doctors, taken medication that could make him dangerously manic, and disappeared again. Having exhausted every resource to try and track him down, Karena realizes she has only one last chance of finding him; the storms. Wherever the tornadoes are, that's where he'll be. Karena joins a team of professional storm-chasers - passionate adventures who will transform her life and give her a chance at love and redemption - and embarks on an odyssey to find her brother before he reveals the violent secret from their past and does more damage to himself....or to someone else. Release date: May 27th.

The Wild Zone: A Novel by Joy Fielding ~ The Wild Zone, a South Beach (Miami Beach, Fla.) bar filled with lusty men—specifically, charismatic personal trainer Jeff Rydell; his cute visiting half-brother, Will, a Princeton graduate student; and Jeff's married best friend, Tom Whitman, a dishonorably discharged Afghanistan war veteran with some serious problems—provides the starting point for bestseller Fielding's nonstop thrill ride. A sexy bar patron, Suzy Bigelow, inspires the trio to make a wager on who can bed her first, and they even ask Jeff's live-in girlfriend, a Wild Zone bartender, for help. Suzy chooses Will for a platonic date, which has some distinctly unpleasant repercussions that involve not only wide-eyed Will but desperate, gun-loving Tom, whose wife takes their children and files for divorce. Fielding (Still Life) combines a fast-paced plot with top-notch character development to create an atmosphere of brooding unease that explodes in a wonderfully wild resolution

Hush: A Novel by Kate White (ARC) ~ Bestseller White, Cosmo's editor-in-chief, takes a break from her Bailey Weggins series (Lethally Blond, etc.) with this stand-alone thriller that generates a real sense of jeopardy while avoiding clichés. Newly divorced 44-year-old marketing consultant Lake Warren finds her latest job devising a marketing plan for a Manhattan fertility clinic rewarding until her ex-husband, Jack, sues for full custody of their two young children. While her lawyer warns her not even to date so Jack won't have leverage against her, Lake gives in to a one-night stand with the clinic's flirtatious Dr. Keaton. After falling asleep on his penthouse terrace, Lake wakes to find Keaton murdered. Worried that the police will accuse her of the murder, Lake begins her own investigation until she learns that someone is stalking her. A subplot about the clinic's questionable practices adds to the tension, but doesn't detract from the main plot with its myriad twists.

Dog Tags (Andy Carpenter) by David Rosenfelt (ARC) ~ A German Shepherd police dog witnesses a murder and if his owner--an Iraq war vet and former cop-turned-thief--is convicted of the crime, the dog could be put down. Few rival Andy Carpenter's affection for dogs, and he decides to represent the poor canine. As Andy struggles to convince a judge that this dog should be set free, he discovers that the dog and his owner have become involved unwittingly in a case of much greater proportions than the one they've been charged with. Andy will have to call upon the unique abilities of this ex-police dog to help solve the crime and prevent a catastrophic event from taking place. Release date: August 25th
