Book Giveway - Blood Vines by Erica Spindler - ARC

Blood Vines by Erica Spindler

When Alexandra Clarkson starts having terrifying visions filled with blood and ceremonial images, she tries to find a rational explanation – maybe her mind is playing tricks on her, resurrecting creepy tableaux from her research on religious ceremonies and sects. But when Alex’s mother, Patsy, commits suicide without leaving behind any information, Alex is left wondering: could she be haunted by something from the childhood she doesn’t remember?

Naked, writhing bodies…

Detective Daniel Reed was the last person to speak to Patsy. What he reveals to Alex is shocking. Twenty-five years earlier, Patsy was married to Harlan Sommer, one of Sonoma County’s most prominent vintners, when their infant son disappeared without a trace. The loss destroyed the Sommers’ marriage, causing Patsy to leave and take Alex with her.

A dead child…

Called on to investigate the identity of a baby’s remains unearthed in a Sonoma vineyard, Reed had picked up a trail that led him to Patsy in San Francisco. Now Reed and Alex both wonder if the cold bones could be her baby brother Dylan, and Alex decides to accompany Reed back to Sonoma for the investigation. No sooner does she arrive, however, than she is drawn deep into the search for a twisted killer…

Innocent by Scott Turow (ARC)

Innocent by Scott Turow

The sequel to the genre-defining, landmark bestseller Presumed Innocent, INNOCENT continues the story of Rusty Sabich and Tommy Molto who are, once again, twenty years later, pitted against each other in a riveting psychological match after the mysterious death of Rusty's wife.

Twenty years have passed, and here we are again. Rusty Sabich has once again been accused of murder. This time it's not his mistress who they're claiming he killed, but the wife he'd been married to for over 30 years. One morning Rusty wakes up to find his wife dead beside him in bed. Does he call the police? Coroner? His son? Not right away - and not for the first 24 hours. Why? Is he spending the time concealing evidence, or is he just in a state of shock?

Rusty Sabich has come a long way since he was a married chief deputy prosecutor accused of the rape and murder of the colleague he had an affair with (see Presumed Innocent.) While he is not convicted of the horrific act, the reader is left wondering - Did he or didn't he do it? Fast forward twenty years and Rusty is the Chief Judge for the Appellate Court for Kindle County. He is also a candidate for the state Supreme Court in the next year's election, not to mention turning the big 6-0. He and Barbara are still married, although not very happily. Barbara suffers from severe depression and just about anything can set her off. With all of this going on, Rusty once again makes the fatal mistake of turning to someone else for comfort. And with love, lust, and deceit comes sadness, destruction, and devastation.

Nat, Barbara & Rusty's son, is a lawyer as well. He prefers to teach law rather than practice. Growing up in a tense, emotionally charged home has left him quiet, distant and aloof. But will finding the right girl and falling in love bring him back to the land of the living? Anna is the woman that Nat falls in love with. She also happens to be Rusty's former law clerk. She initially fights her attraction to Nat, but soon realizes she can't go against what every fiber of her being is telling her. But could the secret she holds destroy both of their lives forever? Jim Brand is now the chief deputy prosecutor of Kindle County with an ax to grind and bite on Rusty's a** sharper than any pit bull with a bone. He will stop at nothing to put Rusty in jail once and for all. But just how far will he go? Will he cross that line? Is this deja vu all over again? Finally, Tommy Molto is back as the acting prosecuting attorney. When Brand comes to him with the news that Sabich's wife is dead, and at first deeming to be from natural causes, Tommy won't take the bait. Brand just knows there is more to the story and pushes Tommy until he caves, but warns him to proceed discreetly and with caution. No one, not even Tommy with a new wife and baby, wants a repeat of twenty years ago. They're either going to let it go or nail his butt to the wall. Tommy will not be shamed again, especially by Rusty Sabich.

So begins a tale of intrigue, romance, lies, betrayal, sex, murder, lust, and intense courtroom scenes that will completely capture your attention. Your opinion on whether or not Rusty is guilty to see-saw back and forth with every question asked. What I loved most about this book was how well it kept me guessing about not only whether or not Sabich did the murder, but also whether or not he will be convicted of the crime - this time! Rusty has an explanation for every single shred of "evidence" that the prosecution has. But is the explanation the truth, or just clever, yet completely plausible answers to cover up what really happened to his wife. The stunning conclusion will have you wondering if for once you've been told the truth, or if you've been lied to once again.

Deception by Jonathan Kellerman

Deception: An Alex Delaware Novel by Jonathan Kellerman

Her name is Elise Freeman, and her chilling cry for help—to whoever may be listening—comes too late to save her. On a DVD found near her lifeless body, the emotionally and physically battered woman chronicles a year-and-a-half-long ordeal of monstrous abuse at the hands of three sadistic tormentors. But even more shocking than the lurid details is the revelation that the offenders, like their victim, are teachers at one of L.A.’s most prestigious prep schools. With Elise now dead by uncertain means, homicide detective Milo Sturgis is assigned to probe the hallowed halls of Windsor Prep Academy. And if ever he could use Dr. Alex Delaware’s psychological prowess, it’s now.

From the get-go, this case promises to be an uphill climb for truth and a down and dirty fight for justice. Allegations of rape, assault, and possibly murder at this esteemed institution renowned for molding Ivy Leaguers make for a social and political time bomb—especially given that one of the students has connections high up in City Hall. As the scandal-conscious elite of L.A.

close ranks around Windsor Prep, Alex and Milo must penetrate the citadel of wealth and scholarship to expose the hidden anguish, dirty secrets, and deadly sins festering among society’s manor-born. But power and position are not easily surrendered, for that’s when the best and the brightest turn brutal and ugly. Searching for predators among the privileged, Alex and Milo may well be walking into a highly polished death trap.

Caught by Harlan Coben - ARC

Caught by Harlan Coben

17-year-old Haley McWaid is a good girl, the pride of her suburban New Jersey family, captain of the lacrosse team, headed off to college next year with all the hopes and dreams her doting parents can pin on her. Which is why, when her mother wakes one morning to find that Haley never came home the night before, and three months quickly pass without word from the girl, the community assumes the worst.

Wendy Tynes is a reporter on a mission, to identify and bring down sexual predators via elaborate—and nationally televised—sting operations. Working with local police on her news program Caught in the Act, Wendy and her team have publicly shamed dozens of men by the time she encounters her latest target. Dan Mercer is a social worker known as a friend to troubled teens, but his story soon becomes more complicated than Wendy could have imagined.

In a novel that challenges as much as it thrills, filled with the astonishing tension and unseen suburban machinations that have become Coben’s trademark, Caught tells the story of a missing girl, the community stunned by her loss, the predator who may have taken her, and the reporter who suddenly realizes she can’t trust her own instincts about this story—or the motives of the people around her.

What happens when the consequences of well-meaning choices inadvertently result in the cost of human life? What happened to just trusting your instincts?

Wendy Tynes is a new reporter doing a story on pedophiles who prey on young children on the Internet (think To Catch a Predator.) Pretending to be a teenage girl, Wendy lures Dan Mercer, a social worker with no family and very few friends, to the decoy house, springing the cameras and accusations at him. Dan, thinking he was coming to the aid of one of the children he counsels, flees the scene. At the preliminary hearing Dan's lawyer does some fancy footwork and gets the charges dismissed. Meanwhile Wendy is approached by Ed Grayson, the father of one of Dan's "victims". He wants Wendy to help him find Dan so that he can seek his own brand of justice. Because he knows the town hates him, Dan goes into hiding. While in hiding, Dan contacts Wendy and asks her to meet. He tells her that he was set up and wants her help in figuring out who set him up. Because she starts to have some doubts about Dan's guilt, Wendy agrees to the meeting. But unbeknownst to her is followed by Ed Grayson. What happens next will rock her to her core, yet at the same time will be very hard to prove.

Hailey McWaid is a beautiful, popular, happy teenager who vanishes one night. The anguish her parents feel is palpable throughout the p
ages of the book. How can a girl with everything going for her just disappear? They do their best to convince the police that she is not a runway and that something terrible has happened to her. Not only is the community devastated by the actions of Dan Mercer, they are trying to understand how a 17 -year -old girl can just disappear. Her parents struggle to go on for the sake of their other children, but can't live without knowing what has happened to their beloved Hailey.

Jenna Wheeler is Dan's ex-wife and closest friend. Dan is the g-dfather to her youngest child and babysits often. When the charges against Dan are leveled, she is the first one to defend him at the expense of her own reputation. She knows that he is not capable of the horrific things they are accusing him of. Will defending her ex force Jenna to flee to a place where no one knows her and w
hat she's been through?

Something about both the Dan Mercer story and Hailey's disappearance bothers Wendy. And when Hailey's phone is found in Dan's motel room, she thinks maybe her instinct was wrong and she is missing something. So, being the investigative reporter she is, she starts digging. She finds a sinister connection between Dan and his former college roommates. All of whom have had their lives destroyed in one way or another and all who claim they have been set up. Could Wendy have been so wrong about Dan, causing the vigilante execution of an innocent man? The shocking information Wendy turns up will bring both closure to some while de
stroying others.

Caught is filled with so many twists and turns you will swear you're on a roller coaster ride. Just when you think you have things figured out, a twist is thrown at you that takes things in a completely different direction with a
stunning conclusion you will never see coming. Is everything really as it seems? Make sure you pre-order a copy of this book, because you don't want to be the only one Caught not reading it.

The tarot cards foretell that Rose's beautiful, abusive husband is going to kill her. Unless she kills him first. Hot-blooded Rose Mae escapes from under Ro's perky compliance and emerges with a gun and a plan to beat the hand she's been dealt. In search of new opportunities, Waller has just begun a new business venture: one that could lead to millions of deaths all over the globe. On Waller's trail is Shaw, the mysterious operative from The Whole Truth, who must prevent Waller from closing his latest deal. Shaw's one chance to bring him down will come in the most unlikely of places: a serene, bucolic village in Provence. But Waller's depravity and ruthlessness go deeper than Shaw knows. And now, there is someone else pursuing Waller in Provence-Reggie Campion, an agent for a secret vigilante group headquartered in a musty old English estate-and she has an agenda of her own.
Hunting the same man and unaware of each other's mission, Shaw and Reggie will be caught in a deadly duel of nerve and wits. Hitchcockian in its intimate buildup of suspense and filled with the remarkable characters, breathtaking plot turns, and blockbuster finale that are David Baldacci's hallmarks, DELIVER US FROM EVIL will be one of the most gripping thrillers of the year.

Hell Gate (Alex Cooper) by Linda Fairstein (ARC) ~ Head of the Sex Crimes Unit of the district attorney's office in Manhattan for decades, Linda Fairstein is America's most visible legal expert on sexual assault and domestic violence-which is why she writes some of the most compelling crime thrillers of our time and why her Alexandra Cooper series has been topping bestseller list for more than a decade. Fans turn to Fairstein for ripped-from-the-headline crimes, cutting-edge investigations, and vindication for victims. Linda Fairstein brings readers inside a world of which they can't get enough, but one they hope to never see in real life. And for her twelfth novel, Fairstein takes Alexandra Cooper inside a world she'd rather not see.
New York City politics have always been filled with intrigue and behind-the-scenes deals. In Hell Gate, Alex finds her attention torn between investigating a shipwreck that has contraband cargo-human cargo-and the political sex scandal of a promising New York congressman now fallen from grace. When Alex discovers that a woman from the wreck and the congressman's lover have the same rose tattoo-the brand of a "snakehead", a master of a human trafficking operation-it dawns on her that these cases aren't as unrelated as they seem and that the entire political landscape of New York City could hang in the balance of her investigation. As Alex looks on at the nameless victims in the morgue, she realizes she's looking at the present-day face of New York's long, dark tradition of human trafficking-a tradition that began hundreds of years ago with slave trade from Africa, now a multimillion-dollar industry that will stop at no cost, even if that cost is Alex's life.
